Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is one of the hottest topics in global education today. An exploration will be undertaken into how SEL can be taught, embedded in curricula, measured, and assessed, and why SEL skills and competencies are an essential part of the solution to many of great global challenges facing the next decade.
The session will draw on established and cutting-edge research to define SEL, and to look at different SEL programs and practices from around the world. It will also demonstrate how the skills, competencies and behaviors that SEL programs help learners develop are essential for addressing a variety of global challenges.
The session also provides opportunity to respond and contribute to a specific call to action to embed SEL throughout the decade ahead.This session will address the importance of increasing the supply of qualified educators and explore ways of doing so on a global scale.
It will explore the need for developing inclusive teacher training policies to ensure diversity of teachers capable of educating every social demographic.
The session will contribute the benefits of SEL in increasing students’ chances of accessing higher education.
The C20 Education Working Group calls for SEL certification must be incorporated into the mainstream curricula across all levels and pathways of education provision.
This session will discuss the contribution SEL would have on civil society across both industrialized and developing countries.
