As we navigate our current challenges, educational leaders and educators in general, will need to consider where we are and where we might be. A significant part of this is looking at the social and emotional learning (SEL) needs of all. These needs are inclusive of, but not limited to, students, teachers/faculty, leaders, support staff, and even the community as a whole. It has been well documented that a focus on the SEL needs can have a long-term positive effect on not just students but on communities as well.
The first major step in ensuring any SEL program in place is both sustainable and effective is to develop an acute awareness of the culture of your school system. This session is designed to support the initial necessary steps towards implementing a program that is responsive to the needs of and supportive in the growth of a healthy SEL culture in your school system.
During this one-hour session, international speaker Ken Shelton (Diversity Equity Inclusion Consultant, Los Angeles, USA) will interact with host Giancarlo Brotto (Cofounder, Catalyst; Karanga Steering Committee; Toronto, Canada) and moderator Adam Collis (Director of Innovation, Catalyst; Budapest, Hungary) in a highly interactive web session. This is not your typical webinar so be prepared to participate in discussions with leaders from across the globe as Ken, Giancarlo, and Adam lead you through thinking about the following questions:
How might senior education leaders effectively identify and create a contextual framework on the differences between equity and equality?
What are the ways in which senior education leaders can develop strategies for—as well as a deeper understanding of—empathy and compassion?
Why does creating pathways towards deeper understanding of students’ needs and the human connection matter?
How might senior education leaders create clear and actionable pathways going forward to ensure all students’ needs are met?
